Safety
Meeting someone new, safely.
Veram does not conduct criminal background checks on its members, and does not verify every member’s identity. An optional selfie check only confirms that a live selfie resembled the member’s first photo when it was checked. Use your own judgement with everyone you meet.
Before you meet
- Be careful with people you don’t know yet. Someone you met online is still a stranger, however well the conversation goes.
- Never send money, gift cards, crypto or financial details to someone you met online, whatever the story. Stop talking to anyone who pushes you for personal or financial information, and report them.
- Keep personal details private until you trust someone. Leave your last name, email, phone number, home address and workplace out of your profile and your first messages, along with your daily routine and your children’s details.
- Talk first. A call before meeting is a good way to check someone is who they say. Once you’ve both written, you can video call from the conversation on Veram, without sharing your number. Calls aren’t recorded, and you can hang up and report at any time.
- Look them up. A quick search of their name and photos can reveal a fake profile.
- Stay on Veram for the first conversations; people who push to move elsewhere quickly may be avoiding our reporting tools.
When you meet
- Meet in a busy public place, and stay in public for the first few dates.
- Don’t let someone you’ve just met pick you up at home.
- Tell a friend where you’re going, who you’re meeting and when you expect to be back; share your location if you can.
- Arrange your own transport there and back, and keep your phone charged.
- Know your limits with alcohol, and never leave your drink unattended.
- Leave whenever you feel uncomfortable. You don’t owe anyone an explanation.
Reporting
On any introduction, open the menu and choose Report or Unmatch. Either ends it for good: the thread closes and neither of you will be introduced to the other again. They are not told why. Reports reach a person at Veram, and we may suspend accounts and cooperate with law enforcement. You can also write to hello@veram.io.
